In April we had the great honor to accompany the marriage of two great people. Ornella and Alessio abducted us to Florence, where they live and celebrated their wedding amidst incredibly beautiful landscapes. We just love to travel for weddings, especially since I as a native of France and Marco as half Italian can quickly find our linguistically way anywhere in the world :) Italy and the French Riviera, ie Mediterranean places are simply our favorite destinations. We thought a lot about the topic, what makes a wedding in these places so special and have made a list with the 8 best reasons why YOU should get married there.
1. The incredible beauty of nature
I don’t know what about you, but no matter where I am in Italy, I walk through the countryside and can do nothing else than to look in amazement to the left and right. From the perspective of the wedding photographer, there is nothing better than such a backdrop to make your photos. Namely, all photos: from the small agriturismo where the getting ready takes place, from whose windows you can see the olive groves, to the church with its golden walls reflecting the light, the location, which stands magnificently between the cypresses, to the infinite number of options for couples photos. Among photographers, which are also called „light chasers“, you also speak about the „Tuscany light“ because it’s so incredibly soft and golden on the skin and allows to capture wonderful backlit photos.
2. The proximity to Germany
The nice thing about Italy is the proximity to German. There are many favorable ways to get there. Your guests could form carpools. However, don’t underestimate the motorway tolls + vignettes, it’s often really worth the comparison with a flight. Depending on location, you can arrive in paradise in 5-7 hours. There are also always very cheap train tickets. You could organize a kind of shuttle from the nearest major city. You can also fly in many cities fairly cheap, if you book in time, in less than 2 hours. There are various car hire services you where you can get reasonably priced cars. We recommend „Billiger-Mietwagen.de„.
3. Connect the wedding with a short holiday
A great alternative to a Wedding short trip in a hotel, would be to rent a large villa or farmhouse for all your guests (or only the family) and to use the wedding as an occasion for a holiday together. In ideal you find a location where you can also arrange your outdoor ceremony. One could arrive Friday, spend the afternoon together, organize a get-together dinner and marry the next day. The next few days would be marked by community and quality time. In contrast to the case of everything ending the next day, when everybody go their way again. We can recommend a great location in the hills near Florence. The Agriturismo Torremozza. We stayed there a few days this year and it really was like a dream. The plot is very secluded and fully bookable for about 18 adults and 5 kids. A pool, great English hosts living in Italy for more than 20 years, the option to book only one meal or a whole catering, an own olive grove and much more, make this jewel unique. Rachel and Sheryl also have experience in organizing weddings in the beautiful garden, which is why you should not hesitate to ask them for your intimate wedding.
4. The food and wine
We must not talk about it, that the Italians have an incredibly great food culture. Not for nothing one speaks of the „Dolce Vita“ (= Sweet Life). Italians place great value on quality and regional food. The menu suggestions, which you get for weddings, are insanely good. 4 courses, often including a tasty wedding cake are almost always the standard. Italy is not only known for its fresh and local food, but also for it’s tasting wine which is a further advantage of trips to Italy. Starting at 2,00 €/L you get great house wines, which already will bring some guests in ecstasy :)
Summer in Italy brings temperatures that will not disappoint you. From May to October the weather is fairly constantly good and you don’t have to fear the rain, such as you do in Germany. In southern Italy the weather is mild all year round. But do not be sad, if it rains, in Italy rain on the wedding day only promises happiness for your marriage. Due to this stable weather conditions you can plan a complete outdoor wedding. And there are so many breathtaking views in Italy.
6. Italians do it better
We are talking about the Italian creativity to make simple things look beautiful. From art to architecture, from food to music, from fashion to crafts. Excellence is the key, style and timeless the result. :)
7. Love is at home in Italy
Not only since Romeo and Juliet, we know that love and the passion come from Italy. The passion of the Italians is not only found in their nature, their food or their wine, no, it’s also found in their way to speak and to gesticulate. Planning your wedding in Italy is bursting with passion, every detail will convince you.
8. Wide range of locations
From north to south, from Venice to the Amalfi Coast, no view is the same. From olive groves, over the vineyards up to the lavender fields. From breathtaking views of medieval towns to incredible coastlines. Whether a Villa, an exclusive Palazzo, a charming Farmhouse, or a rustic finca. From intimate to overwhelming: Here you will find everything and at any price.
Now I hope that you are inspired to think about planning your wedding abroad. We’re definitely on board :)
